FAQS for Tryouts & 2023-24 Club Season

What is required for my athlete to try out?

Prior to tryouts, athletes need to register for tryouts via the Coastal Volleyball Club website.  Athletes also need to complete a single day membership for CHRVA (Junior-Tryout 10 day membership). This 10 day limited membership is valid ONLY during the open tryout period (must upgrade to full membership if affiliating with a team).

What if the athlete can not attend the tryouts dates?

Athletes should register and plan to attend the make-up tryout dates noted. For all other concerns, email Coastal directly.

Do I have to pre-register?

We encourage all athletes to pre-register to allow for appropriate pre-planning for coaching and club staff. Online registration closes 11/2 at 8pm.  Registering the day of the event could cause the athlete to miss valuable court time.

What age group should the athlete try out for?

Athletes are only eligible to play within their age defined group per the chart below. The only exception to this rule is athletes are also allowed to play within the same grade level they are in despite age.

Age 18/Grade 12, Age 17/Grade 11, Age 16/Grade 10, Age 15/Grade 9, Age 14/Grade 8, Age 13/Grade 7, Age 12/Grade 6

How do I know what teams have openings for players?

All teams have all open positions as no official offers will be sent out prior to our tryout dates. We encourage all athletes to try out for our club and other local clubs to help support them in making a club team this season.

How do I know if my athlete was offered a position?

After all tryouts have concluded, if an offer is extended to your athlete, you will receive an email from coastalvolleyballclubde@gmail.com to the email on your registration paperwork. Please ensure your registration paperwork has the correct email you’d like to receive information for this.

How do I accept/decline an offer once it’s extended?

To accept the position, once offered, you will accept the offer on the google-form by submitting and entering all appropriate information. Please note all offers are valid only until the end of “open tryout period”.  Once this period closes, all offers are void and can be made to other athletes at that time.  Open tryout period for the 23/24 season is November 3-7.  For more information on this please follow this link: https://cdn1.sportngin.com/attachments/document/46c4-2262193/2023-2024_CHRVA_Junior_Recruiting_and_Tryout_Policy.pdf

How long do I have to accept/decline an offer?

All offers are valid until Tuesday November 7th at 10pm. All offers have a deadline to accept/decline in the offer letter. Please use this window appropriately to make your decision, but know if you do not accept/decline before the deadline is up, your offer is no longer valid.

If my athlete doesn’t get an offer, what are the options?

Due to the club following strict USA Volleyball guidelines for offer letters, your athlete’s offer letter may come in different time frames than others. Examples of this are: you can be offered a position once others decline initial offers, and/or offer letters for practice players are also available.

Is there a possibility my athlete makes a team and doesn’t have a coach/team?

Coastal has prepared enough coaches and assistant coaches for at minimum 1 team per age group. Each team typically holds 10 players but this is at the discretion of the coaching staff and does not include practice players. If your daughter has been offered a position, Coastal will continue to do everything they can to facilitate the entire team, and will communicate with you if there are problems that arise.

When are practices and tournaments?

Coastal allows our coaches to create their schedules to better support their ability to volunteer their hours to coach. At the time of your offer, you should also receive the practice days and tournament schedule. Please use this information to help make your offer decision.

What if my athlete can not make the scheduled practice days?

Practices are considered mandatory at all age levels,  including practice players. Coaches may have specific attendance policies, but you should consider your athlete’s availability to practice when accepting/declining the offer.

What if my athlete can not make the scheduled tournaments?

All tournaments are mandatory for all athletes and should be considered prior to accepting/declining offers. Please review dates and locations to ensure your athlete will be able to attend all tournaments.

Does Coastal provide transportation or hotel stays for tournaments?

Parents/athletes are responsible for all transportation and any hotel stays throughout the tournament season. Coaches should not transport athletes at any time. Please remember that some tournaments are “stay to play” tournaments that do require mandatory stays.

What is the cost to play for Coastal Volleyball Club?

Since all of our coaches and staff are volunteers, we are able to keep club fees for Coastal as low as possible in order to accommodate any athlete and their situation.  Our fees are as follows: 13U and younger $650*; 14U and older $950*.  Prices include a fundraising option to reduce the cost up to $150 from the full price.
